Building on the increasing interest for and recent alcohol policy developments in the country and the Latin American region, Brazil is the perfect host for GAPC 2026.
The Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2026 is an opportunity to engage in fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas in a unique atmosphere, free from the vested interests of the alcohol industry. Researchers, policy makers, practitioners, advocates, and interested individuals are invited to attend.
Civil society organisations, academic institutions, development agencies, funding agencies and others free from any ties to the alcohol industry are invited to contact the organisers to explore co-sponsorship opportunities for the conference. These entities may also organise their own side events – closed meetings or open to conference participants, on the day prior to the GAPC 2026.
GAPC is where global leaders in alcohol policy meet to exchange ideas, showcase success stories, and shape future strategies. Join us in Rio de Janeiro 8-10 April 2026!
ExpoRio CIDADE NOVA is renowned for its combination of state-of-the-art infrastructure and strategic location. It has a total capacity of over 50,000 people and offers a modular space for various types of events, including trade shows, congresses, and more. GAPC 2026 is co-hosted by the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance, ACT Health Promotion, Vital Strategies, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice and Public Security and Brazilian Association for the Study of Alcohol and Other Drugs (ABEAD).

While this year’s conference program does not include an official reception or conference dinner, we would be very pleased to gather informally with any delegates who would like to join us for a relaxed evening in Rio on 9 April from 7:30 pm onwards. More information about social events will be forthcoming.

As part of our commitment to making GAPC 2026 as sustainable as possible, we will not be providing printed materials, conference bags, or complimentary notebooks and pens as part of the conference materials. We therefore encourage delegates to bring their own notebook and pen, if desired, as well as a reusable water bottle.
These are small but intentional steps to help reduce waste and lessen the environmental footprint of the event. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support, and we look forward to welcoming you to Rio de Janeiro soon.

The GAPC2026 organising team
Five more plenary speakers have been added to the list for GAPC 2026.
Xi Yin leads the Health Promotion and Policy Unit in the Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Control at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific. She will speak about the regional developments on alcohol control in WPR.
Dr Thaksaphon (Mek) Thamarangsi is currently the Chief Representative and Director of the CMB Foundation Bangkok Office. He has a long track record in global health and will speak about strategic planning for the WHO Global alcohol action plan towards 2030. He will also join the feed back panel after the Regional/Interest group report back.
Aadielah Maker Diedericks is a public health activist and Secretary General of the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA). She will speak about monitoring liquor licenses and enlisting communities to reduce alcohol availability.
Dr Carina Ferreira-Borges is a public health specialist in noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) with a PhD in International Health. She will speak about important regional alcohol policy developments in the opening plenary.
Natana Magalhães works with strategic communication for the promotion of women's health at Associação Alcoolismo Feminino (AF) in Brazil. She will speak about "Does Brazil force you to drink? Reflections on racism, human rights violations, and alcohol consumption by Black women."
