Social programme

GAPC offers the following social programme options for conference participants. More information about social events will be forthcoming.

Day 1 - 8 April: Film screening

An optional, free-of-charge screening of the drama (Des)controle will take place at Cinesystem Botafogo Belas Artes on the evening of April 8, with English subtitles.

This screening is made possible through a partnership with the film’s producers and is offered as an additional cultural activity alongside the conference programme. While not part of the official programme, the film explores themes related to alcohol use, family dynamics, and personal vulnerability, which may be of interest to participants.

The producer, as well as a representative from the GAPC 2026 National Organizing Committee, will briefly introduce the session.

Synopsis:
Kátia Klein (actress Carolina Dieckmann) is a successful 45-year-old writer and dedicated mother who appears to have the perfect life. However, her life begins to fall apart due to intense creative pressure, a failing marriage, and family responsibilities. Overwhelmed, she seeks refuge in alcohol, breaking a 15-year streak of sobriety. The film follows her descent into addiction as she tries to handle her work, her children, and a complex personal life while attempting to regain control.

Day 2 - 9 April: Live Brazilian music

While this year’s conference program does not include an official reception or conference dinner, we would be very pleased to gather informally with any delegates who would like to join us for a relaxed evening in Rio on 9 April from 7:30 pm onwards (TBC).

Our local hosts have kindly recommended Carioca da Gema, a samba venue in the traditional neighbourhood of Lapa, known for its historic atmosphere and live Brazilian music. It is a special place to experience a carioca evening and enjoy the rich cultural tradition of samba in one of the city’s most iconic areas.

We would be very happy to meet in this informal setting to network, reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the world, and enjoy samba music together.

The special conference price entry will be R$ 25 (under USD 5) that covers entry to the venue and the live music. Please note that food and beverages are not included and may be ordered and paid for individually at the venue, according to your own preferences and purchases. The venue has a special menu of non-alcoholic drinks.

You can book your tickets here.

GAPC participants can buy any type of ticket through this link, as there are options with table reservations, hall reservations, etc. But if you scroll through the ticket options on the link, at the end there's one called "Ticket for the 8th Global Alcohol Policy Conference".
